Spirent’s SimSAFE Fights Signal Vulnerability

March 1, 2014By

By Tracy Cozzens Spirent Communications now offers SimSAFE, a software solution that simulates legitimate GNSS constellations along with spoofed or hoax signals to evaluate receiver resilience and help develop counter measures. Hoax or spoofing attacks work by mimicking genuine GNSS signals, which mislead GNSS receivers.  The military and critical infrastructure — such as wireless networks, banking, and utilities — are especially... read more

ESA Awards Contract to IFEN to Develop Advanced GNSS Signal Test Bed

February 18, 2014By

A contract to design and to deliver an advanced multi-GNSS constellation signal simulator and interface environment testbed was awarded by the European Space Agency (ESA) to IFEN GmbH on October 28, 2013. This contract is concluded in the context of the Signal Test Bed (SIGTB) activities of the European GNSS Evolution Programme (EGEP). In addition to addressing the second generation... read more

Synthetic-Aperture GNSS Signal Processing
We take a look at a novel GNSS signal-processing technique, which uses the principles of SAR to improve code and carrier-phase observations in degraded environments such as under forest canopy. The technique can simultaneously reject multipath signals while maximizing the direct line-of-sight signal power from a satellite. Along with a specially programmed software receiver, it uses either a single conventional antenna mounted, say, on a pedestrian’s backpack for GIS applications or a special rotating antenna for high-accuracy surveying.
